The Marketing Team, which until this fall was a team of one, is growing by leaps and bounds! Come September, we were lucky enough to add Steve Gershik as our VP of Marketing and now we are welcoming our first ever BEMO intern: Joseph Candelario! Joseph joins our mighty team of two and will help with everything from content creation to implementing new marketing technology.

A little about Joseph:

Joseph hails from Houston, Texas where he's lived most of his life. While he absolutely loves travel, Joseph is a self-proclaimed homebody. "As much as I love going out and exploring new things, my favorite place is at home. I love having movie nights or getting lost in a good book or game with a nice cup of coffee or tea." Another self-proclamation? "I’m a huge nerd, believe it or not. I love fantasy, comics, anime, and video games. Skyrim, The Witcher 3, all of the Arkham games, and Pokemon Go probably have my most logged hours." Still, as a personal trainer for the last few years, Joseph definitely has logged a lot of hours elsewhere at...you guessed it! The gym. He's helped his clients achieve their dreams. From simply helping clients lose a few pounds or feel stronger to competing in full-on fitness competitions, Joseph has led his clients towards their own personal version of success.

In addition to being active in the gym, Joseph loves the great outdoors. Here he is traversing the snowy hillsides of Michigan while visiting family:

On weekends he likes to get out on his bike or tinker with slightly more advanced toys: "I love working on my car in my free time. Washing, detailing, little cosmetic tweaks. It’s very zen for me. I’m also looking to start working on my motorcycle license here soon. A nice exhaust note and a manual transmission on a beautiful day make me a happy camper."

Speaking of the open road, when we asked Joseph where he would next like to visit most he replied: "This is a tough one. Either touring Italy or The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Both are on my bucket list. Decisions, decisions!" Still, since his favorite restaurant is Italian we have a feeling he might be leaning towards the boot-shaped country of delicious cuisine. When we asked him about the best meal he's ever had, our suspicions were even further qualified: "Frenchie’s Italian Restaurant in Webster, TX. Best Italian food I’ve ever had in my life - don’t let
the name fool you. It’s kind of a hole-in-the-wall place located right up the road from NASA that all the astronauts frequent, but man is it amazing. Super authentic and tastes just like your Italian grandpa was whipping it up in the kitchen with passion and pride - which...he is!"

When we asked Joseph what secret talent he has that no one knows about he responded that "I’m pretty artistically inclined, both in illustrating and in playing music. I grew up playing guitar and have since taken that into digital music production like EDM, Hip Hop, and so on."  We definitely agree. Here's one of his pieces:

In addition to drawing, Joseph loves photography. Here he is, on the other side of the camera:

Some fun facts about Joseph:

Who inspires you? My family, my friends, and my girlfriend. They support, motivate, and push me to be the best
version of myself that I can be.

What was the best concert you ever attended? I saw Slash with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators opening for Aerosmith and it was an
amazing show. Slash has always been a guitar hero for me, and Aerosmith is just Aerosmith. Period! So cool to see them shredding live.

If you could be any animal, which would you be? Probably my cat, Luna. She has life far too good! As a rescue kitten from off the street, she’s living quite the upgrade now.

What’s the last book you read? How to Think Like a Roman Emperor: The Stoic Philosophy of Marcus Aurelius. Highly recommended! It takes a deep dive into one of the greatest minds in history in a very reader-friendly way.

What are you passionate about? Self-growth. Learning something new, refining my skills, and making myself stronger and wiser every day.

What’s your favorite movie? The Dark Knight. I grew up a huge Batman fan and this film singlehandedly redefined the character and what a superhero movie could be. The plot, the score, and the visuals were all masterfully done, and the Joker’s performance was one of the best I’ve ever seen. I used to watch Batman: The Animated Series religiously after school growing up and always admired the fact that despite Batman not having any real superpowers, he still got the job done
through hard training and ingenuity. This movie came along and was the Batman movie we had all been wanting for so long.

What are you currently watching on Netflix? Just finished up the latest installment of Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) and am running through The Witcher series again preparing for the new season to drop next month! Let’s goooo!

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day? An astronaut. That’s a view and experience that very few will ever get to experience, and I can imagine that it’s nothing short of breathtaking being up there.

Which four individuals, living or dead, would you like to eat dinner with the most? Leonardo da Vinci: Genius artist, inventor, scientist, and investigator of all things who was way ahead of his time. Would love to see what he’d think about the modern-day! Marcus Aurelius: Emperor of Rome and huge figurehead of Stoicism. What would it be like to rule the greatest empire in the world? And to have such wisdom and restraint with that power at your fingertips? He was the true philosopher-king. Arnold Schwarzenegger: Besides being the obvious gym-junkie pick, his story on HOW he became a celebrated movie star, Mr. Olympia, and the governor of California after coming from a small town in Austria is incredibly motivating. How does his mind work? What insights could I get from a conversation with such a multi-disciplinary icon? Elon Musk: If you’ve not seen his appearances on the Joe Rogan podcast yet, go take the time to do so. A man with that much innovation and success to his name would be a fascinating
dinner guest. Yet we can also still nerd out and have a good laugh.

What is your favorite family tradition? Coquito. It’s a creamy Puerto Rican holiday drink made from coconut and rum - need I say

Sounds delicious! Welcome to the team, Joseph! We are so happy to have you join us.
