BEMO Welcomes Two New Members

Featured Image

BEMO is proud to welcome our two newest hires of 2023: Carol Bubar and Léo Chartier.

Carol Bubar was BEMO’s Chief of Staff for over two years before retiring. After one year away from BEMO, Carol Bubar decided to 'un-retire', and she has rejoined our Leadership team as Chief of Staff. She will be reporting to Bruno Lecoq, CEO & CISO.

We also welcome Léo Chartier, who joins our Product team as our new Software Developer Intern. He will be reporting to Craig Knowles, Director of Product.

So who are these new team members? Let’s find out!

Carol Bubar: Chief of Staff

Carol joins us from Hansville, WA, USA. Where she lives with her husband, Bob. Although they have 3 kids, 2 grandkids, and 3 grand-dogs, they are empty-nesters now.

Carol and her husband are dog-people but don't have any pets currently, although she shays that with all the wildlife (deer, rabbits, squirrels, and coyotes) that frequent their yard, they kind of feel like they have some 'wild pets'. How cool!

Here we have Carol and Bob with their grandkids on a sunny day in the great outdoors:

Although in her free time you'll find Carol reading or getting creative quilting, don't be surprised by her adventurer spirit. She loves to travel and go on hikes while spending time with her family.

She has amazing stories about her trips - She climbed the Pacaya in Guatemala, a semi-active volcano! And she recently visited Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she hiked slot canyons, enjoyed art museums, swam and took in the New Mexican cuisine.

Here she is with her family on one of their many adventures:

Carol
We can confidently say that Carol is a wanderer soul. When we asked her about her favorite place in the world she said "I have a soft spot for Cannon Beach, OR. I took many trips there as a kid and have returned several times as an adult. I have fond memories of beachcombing, flying kites and building sandcastles."

Some more from our fun Q&A with Carol:

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day? Probably Adele. I can't sing to save my life! It would be amazing to be able to sing like her for a day!

What’s the most helpful way for you to get feedback? Timely and direct. I am always eager to learn how to get better and appreciate input.

What’s your secret talent no one knows about? Not sure I have too many secret talents... Some folks might not know that I'm a quilter. My neighbor calls me the quilt-whisperer because I have taught so many people to quilt.

What are some of your pet peeves? I don't like to be late. I don't like people smacking their gum. And I don't like squirrels that try to get under my house!

If you were a crayon, what color would you be? Fuchsia because it's a vibrant, happy color.

Welcome back to the team, Carol! We are so glad to have you join us!

Léo Chartier: Software Developer Intern

Léo joins us from Saint Martin sur Nohain, Nièvre, France, where he is studying for his Masters' in Computer Science at ALGOSUP.

Since very little he has been very passionate about science, mathematics and logic. Here we have an old picture from where him and his school team won first place in a national science competition!

And followed by it, some more recent pictures of Léo's sciencey adventures. On the left he's at a racetrack event and on the right, we can see him and his programming club.

Outside of work, Léo truly enjoys coding. He told us about a cool project he is working on: a tool for visual novels that would scan the game and provide you with the path to reach the best ending. "Some would say it defeats the goal of the game but I still think it's a cool project to work on, especially figuring out the algorithms."

He also likes to spend time playing video games because they challenge him, and he says his brain is always burning with ideas. Which is great because we are sure you'll put them all to good use at BEMO!

Some more from our fun Q&A with Léo:

What are you currently watching on streaming platforms? I haven't watched many streams in a while but I used to watch chess.

What’s your favorite movie? Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be? Black. The one that allows you to structure the outlines of a drawing.

What's the most helpful way for you to get feedback? Chatting face to face, describing in details what when right/wrong and why. The more details the better and being face to face allows to more easily describe emotions and show empathy. It also allows for quick sketching if necessary.

If you could be an animal, which would you be? An owl.

Welcome to the team Léo! We are glad to have you join us!
